USCIS Announces Re-Registration Period Is Now Open for Hondurans with TPS

USCIS announced that current beneficiaries of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under Honduras’ designation who want to maintain their status through the termination date of January 5, 2020, must re-register between June 5 and August 6, 2018. Re-registration procedures were published today in the Federal Register.1:03 AM

Affirming the district court’s summary judgment in favor of the appellee, the Ninth Circuit held that under INA §244(f)(4), a Temporary Protected Status (TPS) recipient is deemed to be in lawful status as a nonimmigrant—and has thereby satisfied the requirements for becoming a nonimmigrant, including inspection and admission—for purposes of adjustment of status under INA §245(a). The court thus found that the plaintiff-appellee, a TPS beneficiary, was eligible to obtain lawful permanent residence.

DHS extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for eligible nationals of Nepal (and those without nationality who last habitually resided in Nepal) for an additional 18 months, effectiveDecember 25, 2016, through June 24, 2018. The 60-day re-registration period runs throughDecember 27, 2016. This extension also allows TPS re-registrants to apply for a new Employment Authorization Document (EAD) with an expiration date of June 24, 2018. USCIS is automatically extending current TPS Nepal EADs with a December 24, 2016, expiration date for six months.

TPS from Syria

DHS extended the designation of Syria for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, from October 1, 2016, through March 31, 2018. The 60-day re-registration period will run from August 1, 2016, through September 30, 2016. DHS also redesignated Syria for TPS, allowing individuals who have been continuously residing in the United States since August 1, 2016, and have been continuously physically present in the United States since October 1, 2016, to apply for TPS. The 180-day initial registration period for new applicants will run from August 1, 2016, through January 30, 2017.
