USCIS announced it will automatically extend parole, and employment authorization if applicable, for certain residents of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). This specific extension of parole as authorized by law will provide relief while USCIS establishes procedures for obtaining the new CNMI Resident status, which was created by the Northern Mariana Islands Long-Term Legal Residents Relief Act (Public Law 116-24).

USCIS announced the latest phase in the expansion of its FOIA Immigration Records System (FIRST). USCIS online account holders may now submit FOIA requests online for their own records and will soon be able to submit online requests for non-A-File material.

Ten members of the House of Representatives who represent congressional districts in Texas sent a letter to USCIS expressing concern regarding the processing delays impacting applications for green cards, naturalization, and advance parole filed by Houston constituents, emphasizing that they impose a “burden on those who live and work in our community and want nothing more than to follow the law.” Additionally, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus requested a meeting with USCIS Director L. Francis Cissna to discuss similar concerns.

USCIS published a notice in the Federal Register extending the designation of South Sudan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, from May 3, 2019, through November 2, 2020. The re registration period runs from today, April 5, 2019, through June 4, 2019.

USCIS announced that it had once again received more than enough H‑1B petitions within the first five business days of the FY2020 filing period to reach the annual cap of 85,000 new H‑1B visas. The agency received 201,011 petitions, an increase from last year’s total of 190,098.

USCIS announced that it will resume premium processing on February 19, 2019, for all H‑1B petitions filed on or before December 21, 2018. For pending H‑1Bs that have been transferred, a premium processing request must be submitted to the service center now handling the petition.
