Trump Expected to Issue Executive Order on Visa Screening/Issuance and Refugee Resettlement Tomorrow

President Trump is expected to sign an Executive Order, Protecting the Nation from Terrorist Attacks by Foreign Nationals, that would suspend the issuance of visas and other immigration benefits to nationals of “countries of particular concern,” stop refugee admissions for 120 days, add requirements for screenings and procedures for all immigration benefits, halt Syrian refugee processing indefinitely, and suspend the visa interview waiver program, among other things.

Trump Signs Two Executive Actions on Immigration

Today, President Trump issued the first in a series of Executive Orders on border security and immigration enforcement. Among other items, the President announced that he would order DHS to construct a southern border wall, increase the size of the enforcement agencies, and require that states and localities engage in immigration enforcement to supplement federal efforts.

Reuters: Here’s How California Plans to Fight Donald Trump’s Immigration Plans

Reuters reports that on Monday leaders of both houses of California’s legislature introduced two bills to protect undocumented immigrants in the state from efforts to deport them once President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2017. One measure would set up a fund to pay for lawyers for immigrants facing deportation. The other would train criminal defense attorneys in immigration law. “Immigrants are a part of California’s history, our culture, and our society,” stated Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon. “We are telling the next administration and Congress: If you want to get to them, you have to go through us.”

Univision drops Trump due to racist comments

National Journal reports that, just months after acquiring the rights to broadcast the Miss Universe pageant in Spanish, Univision announced on Thursday that it would end its relationship with the pageant organization, which is owned in part by 2016 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. According to the article, Univision is cutting ties with Mr. Trump due to inflammatory comments he made against Mexican immigrants during his June 16 candidacy announcement.
