House passes bill aimed at stopping future Trump travel ban.

On Wednesday, the House passed legislation that would limit executive authority to issue future travel bans like the one imposed by former President Trump against several Muslim-majority countries. The legislation, abbreviated to the NO BAN Act, would explicitly prohibit religious discrimination in immigration-related decisions. Any immigration restrictions could only be issued by the executive branch if there is a “compelling government interest.” The State Dept. and DHS would have to consult with Congress and provide specific evidence justifying the immigration restriction and its proposed duration before imposing it.

I am from Africa and enter the USA on R1/B2 Visa. I am an ex catholic nun can I be legalized in the USA?

You would first have to be aware of the 3/10 year bar. It is quickly approaching and you may not be able to come back to the U.S. for 3 or 10 years depending. You may qualify for the R-1 Visa (which is not the one you listed above). This is for the Religious Visa. However, because you are out of status, you would have to go back to your home country to get it. The exception would be if you were persecuted in your home country. In that case, you would have up to 1 year to apply for asylum after entering the U.S.

R-1 Religious Visas

This is the temporary religious visa. If you want to come to the United States to perform duties in a religious organization, this would be the visa that would be of most interest to you.

This visa does not need prior Immigration and Naturalization approval, and therefore, is a very quick visa to obtain. Later, you may be able to apply for the permanent residence religious visa to obtain the Green Card. This visa can be issued for up to three years.

Your spouse and unmarried children can come to the United States once your visa is approved. Additionally, you children can go to school in the United States without a problem.
